Samsung and Qualcomm’s collaboration deepens
Samsung left the Exynos processors and not only used Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips in the Galaxy S23 series, but also cooperated with Qualcomm and placed a chip with increased frequencies called “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy” on their phones. Now, it is said that Samsung will develop a special chipset for the Galaxy series together with Qualcomm.
It is said that this new silicon will arrive in 2025 at the earliest, so Samsung’s high-end Galaxy S family will continue to be powered by Sanpdragon processors for a while. For now, the details of the special chip that will be developed with Qualcomm are not available, but it is said that its production will be carried out in Samsung’s second generation 3nm GAA process instead of TSMC.
Although it is possible for Qualcomm to prepare a completely custom chip for the Galaxy, it is questionable to say that Samsung will be used instead of TSMC for production. Currently, TSMC is ahead of Samsung in manufacturing technology and efficiency. That’s likely to change, assuming it’s still a few years away for the custom Qualcomm chip.
