A few days before Samsung unveils the Galaxy S23 series, it has filed a trademark application for a new display technology to be used in its future products. The display manufacturing arm of the South Korean firm seems to be making improvements to its already excellent OLED technology.

Samsung has applied for trademark registration for a term called ‘Lifelike Pixels’ in South Korea.

While we don’t know exactly how the technology will work, we’re confident the company will use it in future OLED displays for smartphones and tablets. However, it may not be limited to only these 2 product categories. The company may eventually bring it to other devices, including AR/VR displays, laptops, and smartwatches.

This trademark registration was made on the same day the company applied for the trademark for the term Flex Hybrid. Flex Hybrid is Samsung Display’s new type of display that can fold and slide at the same time. It is designed for future laptops that can be folded into a much smaller size. The company also showcases 3 more display panels: Flex In & Out, Flex Slidable Duet and Flex Slideable Solo.

To speculate, the Lifelike Pixel could somehow relate to improved color reproduction via the OLED display. We expect this feature to be used in future devices of the South Korean company. It may also be supplied to other smartphone OEMs in the future.
