OpenAI is on the agenda over security concerns after user information was exposed on the viral artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT. After the leak, which exposed chat histories, email and credit card information of some users, Samsung advised its employees to be careful with ChatGPT and instructed them not to share company information.

Samsung warns its employees

It’s not just Samsung that says ChatGPT can pose a security risk. British intelligence agency and Europol advised people to be careful what they share when interacting with ChatGPT. In fact, OpenAI states that it can be used for educational purposes and advises users not to share sensitive information in conversations with the chatbot.

Employees were sharing company information with ChatGPT

On the other hand, The Economist reports that Samsung Semiconductor’s factory engineers used ChatGPT, which resulted in three sensitive data leaks in just 20 days. An employee reportedly used ChatGPT to check for errors in the source code of the facility’s semiconductor measurement database program. In a more serious case, an employee requested ChatGPT to optimize the source code of a program for determining the status of facilities.

Samsung employees who shared their company information with ChatGPT intentionally or unintentionally gave their company information to OpenAI. For now, Samsung requests its employees not to use ChatGPT to contain sensitive information. However, if this use continues, Samsung may ban the use of ChatGPT among its employees.
