Samsung is playing big
According to the statement, the company has allocated a budget of 230 billion dollars for the world’s largest chip casting facilities. The facilities to be built in South Korea are planned to have 5 campuses in total and spread over a 20-year period. Samsung thinks that it will attract the attention of about 150 chip companies with its new investment. Samsung Display and Samsung SDI subsidiaries will also invest $4.5 billion in displays.
The South Korean government has also announced a giant bit package of 383 billion dollars for chip studies. Many different tools, from tax exemption to financial support, will be offered to companies that want to develop chips. Thus, there will be a very tight competition.
South Korea is currently the largest memory manufacturer, but when it comes to chip casting, Taiwan can’t help it. We will see over time whether this giant budget combination of approximately 610 billion dollars will beat Taiwan.
