Update support for the 2018 flagship Samsung Galaxy S9 has ended. Offering Android updates to Galaxy S9 and S9+ users for four years, Samsung is removing the Galaxy S9 family from the official Android program.
According to the Korean technology giant’s statement, Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will no longer receive security updates. This means that four years of Android support is finally over. Announced in 2018, the Galaxy S9 family made the company smile about sales.
Update support for Samsung Galaxy S9 has ended
Samsung has removed the Galaxy S9 family from its security updates page. In fact, the technology giant has only recently supported the S9 series with quarterly updates. Therefore, we can say that the new decision is not surprising.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus in late March 2018. Although it didn’t match the sales success of the Galaxy S8+, it was a successful flagship for Samsung. The device, which has superior camera features compared to 2018, won the admiration of users with its stylish design.
Also, as we mentioned earlier, the March 2022 update was finally released for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. With the update with the build number G96xFXXUHFVB4, more than 50 security vulnerabilities were fixed, many software bugs were fixed and the phone’s system performance was improved.
However, Samsung continues to offer quarterly Android updates for the Galaxy Note 9, which was also released in 2018. Note 9, which has not been removed from the company’s official software support page, is also thought to be canceled soon.
Samsung has launched the Galaxy S9 series with Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. At the beginning of 2019, it got Android 9 Pie-based One UI. When the year came to 2020, it received the Android 10-based One UI 2 update. The last major update for the Galaxy S9 was the release of Android 10.
