Although Samsung has a strong semiconductor division and even has its own Exynos mobile processor series, the company is still dependent on third-party chip suppliers, primarily Qualcomm.
Looking at the company’s spending on processors by year, it is seen that it has increased several times since 2019:
- $2.3 billion in 2019.
- $4.3 billion in 2020.
- $4.8 billion in 2021.
- $7.1 billion in 2022.
Samsung is working on new solutions
Since the company’s spending on chip purchases is approximately $7 billion as of the third quarter of 2023, we can expect a record of over $7.1 billion by the end of the year. Samsung is expected to pay even more for processors in 2024. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor will be used in the company’s Galaxy S24 series.
