The SmartThings Find feature, which Samsung launched in late 2020 to locate lost Galaxy devices, has become one of the fastest growing parts of the company.
How many devices does SmartThings Find accommodate?
The SmartThings Find feature, which is included within the Samsung SmartThings smart device ecosystem, enables lost Samsung devices to be found. Within 2 years, the number of registered points reached 200 million. Each dot identifies the Samsung device registered to the system.
SmartThings Find uses Bluetooth low energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technologies to help locate the device. Data is securely stored as device IDs change every 15 minutes.
To find a lost device, users must access SmartThings Find from a previously paired smartphone, tablet or computer. The system tries to find the location of the lost device as closely as possible by using other Samsung devices registered to the network.
Samsung devices generate a BLE signal that can be picked up by other devices after 30 minutes of being offline. In this way, even if Samsung devices are offline, it is possible to find them again. It is estimated that the SmartThings Find network will grow faster after the new SmartTag devices are included in the ecosystem.
