READING NOW Samsung Skipped the “Seamless Update” on Galaxy S22 too…

Android updates are getting faster and more regular, especially on Samsung devices. But Samsung still hasn’t embraced Android’s faster and safer “Seamless Updates” feature introduced years ago, and the Galaxy S22 continues that streak.

So what are these “Seamless Updates” mentioned?

Using A/B partitions for system updates allows the phone to install an update while you’re still using it, and after rebooting, the changes will actually take effect. This includes user convenience, such as not having the phone out of service for a few minutes or more while an update is being installed, and the security of reverting to the phone’s previous software if something goes wrong during installation.

Samsung has not adopted this feature, which it has not previously adopted with the Galaxy S21 series, in the Galaxy S22 either. Because it has been confirmed that there is no indication in the system files of the Galaxy S22 Ultra that virtual A / B partitions are supported. While this is a shortcoming, Samsung is also known to be sensitive about updates. Because Samsung has recently been carrying out software upgrades not only for high-end devices, but also to cover all devices. There is even a new news from Samsung about this.

Explaining that it has standardized update support for certain Galaxy devices for 4 generations, Samsung announced the Four-generation ‘One UI’ and Galaxy devices that will receive security updates for five years as follows:

  • Galaxy S Series: Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra as well as Galaxy S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S21 FE and upcoming S series devices
  • Galaxy Z Series: Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Flip3 and new upcoming Z series devices
  • Galaxy A Series: some of the upcoming A series devices
  • Galaxy Tablets: Galaxy Tab S8, S8+, S8 Ultra and upcoming Tab S series devices
