The cloud gaming service allows players to access games that they cannot play with the hardware they have on the platform. Many see cloud gaming service as the future of the gaming world. With the development of game graphics and the growth of their size, the orientation to this area has increased even more. Finally, the statements from Samsung confirm this thesis.
New cloud gaming service will run on Samsung Smart TV
Samsung offers a new service for game-loving users. The company’s upcoming cloud gaming service will run on Samsung Smart TVs powered by the Linux-based operating system, Tizen. This was explained in the Samsung Development Conference 2021 (SDC21) keynote.
“We are developing a new cloud gaming platform to diversify your game selection on Samsung Smart TVs,” said Yongjae Kim, Samsung’s Senior Vice President of Visual Display Software R&D. Yongjae Kim did not provide any details on the subject in the conversation. It is a matter of great curiosity which games the platform will support. Details about the service, whose release date is also unknown, are expected to be announced in the coming days.
This isn’t the first time Samsung has tried its cloud gaming service. The company worked with a game publishing company called Gaikai for Samsung Smart TVs in 2012. At that time, the head of the Gaikai changed his mind and diverted course. The company was sold to Sony and began to provide services to PlayStation Now.
In his keynote, Yongjae Kim added, “This means you can soon enjoy games without buying high-end hardware.” These sentences prove that cloud gaming service will be the future of gaming world.
With this step of Samsung, it plunged into a fierce competition in cloud gaming services. There are other services in this space such as Google Stadia, xCloud, PlayStation Now and the relatively recently launched Amazon Luna. Although GeForce Now is the dominant platform for many people for now, the investments of companies show that this picture will change.
