Samsung, Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra users for the Samsung Messages (Message) seems to have quietly disabled the application. Instead, Google messages are used by default on new devices.
The Galaxy S25 series is not the first Samsung phones to be released without Samsung messages. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 were also released with Google messages last year as a default messaging application. However, users of these phones could then install and use the Samsung messages app. Apparently the Galaxy S25 owners do not have this option.
According to Phonearena, Samsung messages on the old Galaxy models that have already installed the application will continue to use the application. However, some concerns about the future of Samsung messages on old devices have emerged. The application was removed from the stores and the future support was not promised. Therefore, it does not seem possible to receive significant updates and may not even get security updates.
A Samsung spokesman made a statement on January 23 to the Android Authority’s decision to switch to Google Posts: “We decided to move all services to Google Posts with Google and Samsung and end the Samsung Messages . It is no longer available in the Play Store; However, those who choose to use Samsung Messages can continue to do so. ”
The statement states that the advanced RCS functionality of Google Posts is effective in the decision: “We believe that the addition of the added functionality of the RCS messaging in Google Messages creates an advanced user experience for both Android to Android and Platform messaging.”
Nevertheless, some users still say they can download Samsung Messages at the app store. For example, a video of Jeff Springer from Sammyguru shows that the application can be downloaded from the Galaxy S25 Galaxy Store in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which contrasts to Samsung’s statement.
Although Samsung does not satisfy some users, we estimate that it is not very likely to step back.
