You might think that China is where Samsung phones are made, but that’s not true. Most Samsung smartphones are produced in Vietnam and India. The company also has factories in South Korea and other markets.
Samsung previously manufactured all its phones in-house. Low-end and entry-level phones were also in this group. However, a few years ago, the company began transferring the production of some of these devices to China. It will now manufacture more of these devices in China.
The Galaxy A6s was Samsung’s first ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) phone. The device was designed by Samsung and manufactured by a third party in China. The company has since launched multiple ODM models. Wingtech is seen as Samsung’s main contract manufacturer in the country.
Samsung previously aimed to produce over 40 million ODM devices. This number is now reportedly increased to 60-70 million units. These orders are thought to be distributed between Wingtech and Hwachin contract manufacturers.
The ODM model allows Samsung to generate more profit from its cheap smartphones. It also allows them to quickly introduce these devices to the market. This speed is also essential to allow the company to compete effectively in this very lucrative price segment.
Samsung had its own manufacturing facilities in China’s Tianjin and Huizhou regions. These facilities have been shut down as demand for Samsung’s smartphones in China has fallen below 1% over the years. Currently, ODM phones made in China are shipped all over the world.
