Although Samsung criticized Apple’s decision not to include a charger in the box with the iPhone 12 in 2020, the Galaxy S21 series, which was introduced just a few months later, did not include a charger in the box.
Since then, high-end phones have been distributed without a charger, including Samsung’s rather expensive foldable smartphones. Like Apple, Samsung said it’s about sustainability, but it’s also about prices. It looks like Samsung is now considering giving up chargers, even in its more affordable devices.
There are rumors that mobile vendors in Europe have confirmed that some entry-level Samsung phones will not ship with a charger in the box. This list also includes the recently introduced Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A23. Galaxy M23 and Galaxy M33 are also expected to be released soon but have not been officially announced yet.
While Samsung has not officially confirmed this, it seems quite possible that it is true. It can now be seen that this decision will not cause a big problem. Customers have reluctantly accepted that they will no longer be provided with a charger, and whether a charger will be provided is not a factor they consider when deciding which phone to buy.
So Samsung may remove the charger from all phone boxes and it may be possible for the company to increase its margin on these affordable phones without high margins…
