As the semiconductor industry crisis continues, Samsung is said to be planning to establish a new in-house global research organization under the Device Divisions Business Division within the next month.

It will start operating in December

The new research organization, which is said to be headed by a vice president, is expected to analyze the semiconductor market and other related industries and explore new markets.

The Samsung Group currently has several research organizations (Samsung Securities Research Center and Samsung Global Research) engaged in research on advanced technologies. However, each of these research organizations is focused on different areas, and none of them undertake in-depth analyzes of the semiconductor industry.

Samsung lost its leadership position in the global semiconductor market to Intel in the third quarter. The tech giant and other semiconductor companies have experienced a steady decline in demand, supply chain disruptions and inventory problems due to the Covid-19 crisis. Samsung thinks its semiconductor research division will fix this situation.

After a shortage of semiconductor supplies, followed by an oversupply of memory chips, Samsung suffered a 14% year-on-year revenue loss in its memory business in the third quarter. However, the company plans to increase the production of memory chips for servers due to the increasing demand in this sector.
