Two years ago, Samsung announced that its smartphones could be used as a digital car key. Now BMW has announced that it will bring Digital Car Key Plus support to Android, starting with Google and Samsung smartphones. So, which models can this feature be used on? Here are the Samsung Galaxy phones that support the BMW digital key feature:

Samsung phones that can be used as digital car keys

Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S23+, Galaxy S23 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 are among supported phones. In order to use the feature, apart from having a compatible phone and BMW car, the phone must run on Android 13 and the Samsung Wallet application must be installed. Users can share the digital car key with up to five people.

Which cars support?

BMW Digital Car Key Plus feature can be used in cars produced after November 2022. This feature will also be offered to older cars with a software update. Digital Car Key Plus can be configured via the My BMW app. There is also a special mode that allows users to lock, open and start the car doors without unlocking their phone or even after the phone is completely turned off.

Uses UWB connection

Note that some BMW cars already support the use of Samsung smartphones as digital keys, but now this feature works over UWB instead of NFC. This allows the user to control the car from a distance without physically touching it.
