Samsung, one of the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers, is making a new change in memory production. The tech giant may reduce DDR4 prices while reducing DDR3 production to allow for newer DRAM technologies.
DDR3 production will stop by the end of the year
Earlier this year, major DRAM manufacturers such as Samsung and SK Hynix were the first to announce that they would stop DDR3 production in the coming months. Today, while DDR4 becomes widespread and the transition to DDR5 continues, it is reported that the South Korea-based giant has significantly reduced DDR3 production.
According to sources close to the industry, Samsung plans to stop accepting new DDR3 orders by the end of this year and deal with orders already received by the end of 2023. However, the South Korean giant, which wants to direct customers to DDR4 chips by offering discounts in more preferred capacities such as 4GB today, seems to focus on DDR4 and DDR5 DRAMs with higher profit margins.

While it’s too early to say whether the new decision will lead to lower prices for consumers, DRAM consumer demand is experiencing a huge drop, according to market analysts. For this reason, Samsung, which holds a large DRAM inventory, may offer new discounts on DDR4 memory.
