Google announced this week that its newest Pixel phones and subsequent devices will now receive seven years of Android operating system and security updates. Following this statement, Samsung made a similar statement at the Samsung Developers Conference 2023 in San Francisco.
At the conference, Shin-Chul Baik, Security Team Chief Engineer and Technical Program Manager for the company’s Mobile eXperience division, explained in a statement that the company is actively discussing what it should do regarding long-term security updates beyond the five-year support currently provided.Baik also stated that the vision of supporting devices for a longer period of time is compatible with Samsung, and that in light of the new regulations, Samsung is preparing to go beyond the current five-year support period.
