Samsung has made the much-anticipated statement about reports of slowing the performance of thousands of popular apps, saying that a software update will return control to users.

Samsung spokesperson Kelly Yeo said in a statement, “We value the feedback we receive about our products and, after careful consideration, we plan to release a software update soon so that users can check performance while running gaming apps.”

Samsung’s response comes after reports that its phones have throttled the performance of nearly 10,000 apps, including social media services like Instagram and TikTok, as well as games like Genshin Impact. However, the software doesn’t seem to affect popular benchmarking apps like 3DMark, indicating that benchmarks may not accurately reflect the phones’ real-world performance. “Our priority is to deliver the best mobile experience for consumers,” said Yeo

. “Game Optimization Service (GOS) is designed to help gaming apps achieve great performance while effectively managing device temperature. GOS does not manage the performance of non-game applications.”

No exact timeframe has been given for when the update will be available. In addition, Samsung has not yet made a convincing statement about the popular performance measurement applications that are excluded from the restriction.
