According to recent rumors, Samsung plans to launch more affordable foldable smartphones with the Galaxy Fan Edition (FE) series. This will allow the company to lower the barrier to entry for foldable devices and make the technology more affordable and accessible to more consumers.
The rumor comes from Twitter user Tech_Reve who claims that Samsung wants to focus more on the FE series. After launching the Galaxy S23 FE, Samsung plans to consistently launch FE variants of its flagships in different product categories each year. This expansion will also include bringing foldable display technology to the FE series.
When will the foldable Galaxy FE models arrive?
Rumor has it that after the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, we may see the Galaxy Z FE model as early as next year. However, it is worth remembering that Samsung said that it did not make any plans for cheaper foldable products at the last Galaxy Unpacked event, where the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 were launched.
Last year, rumors were circulating that Samsung was planning a foldable product for the mid-range Galaxy A series, and it was claimed that this model was still in early development. We haven’t come across such a product, but the Galaxy Z FE, if it manages to offer an affordable price, could help achieve its goal of making foldable displays mainstream.
Samsung’s current foldable series are high-end devices priced at $1,000 and above. Although the price of the Flip series has dropped a little over time, foldable phones are still quite expensive compared to standard smartphones. Galaxy Z Flip 5 starts at $999. The Galaxy Z FE version could significantly lower prices and allow buyers with more limited budgets to experience foldable screens.
