Samsung will not order LCD TV panels from Chinese display manufacturer BOE as much as before.

BOE loses orders for Samsung’s LCD TV panels

BOE has become one of Samsung’s most important suppliers of LCD panels for TVs. This collaboration was very important to them as the South Korean company is one of the largest TV manufacturers in the world. BOE took advantage of Samsung’s global presence and used its name for marketing purposes. The two companies have been in talks about the copyright structure since the beginning of this year, but have been unable to reach an agreement. It is unknown whether they failed to work out the copyright structure or if the BOE completely refused to pay royalties. In both cases, Samsung is retaliating by removing BOE from its supply chain.

According to research firm Omdia, Samsung has cut its share of BOE’s LCD TV lineup from 17% to 13%. This was a 4% decrease at a time when the company increased its total orders from 47.8 million to 53.8 million – almost 13%. BOE’s loss means big gains for Samsung’s other suppliers, including CSOT, HKC, Sharp and LG Display.

CSOT remains Samsung’s largest supplier of LCD TV panels, with a 21% share. HKC outpaced BOE by increasing its share from 15% to 20%.

The changes went unnoticed by Apple, who asked the BOE to stop production. The company can now get the screens of the entire iPhone 14 series from Samsung Display and LG Display.

Samsung Display’s share of Samsung LCD TVs is declining

BOE isn’t the only brand losing Samsung’s LCD TV panel orders. Samsung Display, the sister company of the South Korean giant, received 6.9 million orders last year and 4.3 million this year. This is because; Samsung Display’s transition to QD-OLED panels. The company plans to completely stop LCD production.
