In recent years, many companies have started to produce their own processors and chipsets. Google’s switch to the Tensor processor with the Pixel 6 series, and Apple’s switch to M1 series processors on the Mac side draws the industry to an interesting point. Samsung, which has been producing its own chips for many years, is preparing a new processor for the Galaxy series.
How will it differ from Exynos?
Samsung has been producing Exynos processors for a long time and uses them in flagship devices. However, Exynos processors produced by Samsung are technically open to other electronics companies and they can use Exynos processors if they place an order. However, it seems that Samsung produces a processor exclusively for the Galaxy series. Samsung Mobile president TM Roh announced at a press conference that they are preparing a custom processor for “Galaxy” devices. It is not known how this processor will differ from the Exynos series, but it will only be used on Samsung devices.
Samsung has come under serious criticism in recent years because of the Exynos series. The fact that Samsung Mobile is preparing a new processor may be a good opportunity for them to leave behind the problematic structure and name of Exynos. Samsung’s Exynos processors are manufactured by Samsung Electronis LSI. However, Samsung Mobile’s having more say in a possible processor production may offer higher optimization and performance for Galaxy devices.
Galaxy S22 FE and S23 series may come with three different processors
In the past days, there has been news that Samsung can use MediaTek processors for the Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy S23 series. In such a case, it seems that new Samsung processors will not come to life any time soon. Perhaps Samsung’s willingness to give up Exynos and Snapdragon may increase the time and capital spent on the new processor. Let’s see if Samsung can get out of the shadow of Exynos processors.
