We’ve hit the 200MP limit on smartphone cameras’ resolutions, but Samsung doesn’t intend to stop there. The company that registers a brand under the name Hexa²pixel raises the bar even higher.
450MP phone camera
Samsung’s trademark registration with the name Hexa²pixel and leaked information point to a 450MP resolution camera. Since the Tetra²pixel RGB Bayer Pattern definition used in the 200MP ISOCELL HP series defines combining 16 pixels into a single pixel, Hexa²pixel will probably collect 36 pixels in a single pixel.
Important camera decision from Samsung
With the calculations made, it is understood that Samsung has prepared a camera sensor with a resolution of 450MP. By gathering 36 pixels together, 12.5MP resolution photos will be obtained, as in the previous generation, but the details will be much sharper.
It is not yet known which phone the 450MP sensor will find its place on, but Samsung usually prefers Chinese customers such as Xiaomi first. We’ve also seen customized versions used before. In other words, a customized 450MP camera may appear on the Galaxy S23 Ultra model.
