Samsung aimed to introduce its first prototypes in 2025 to solid state battery work and to integrate this technology into electric vehicles in 2027. The company has progressed in accordance with the calendar and announced that it has developed a battery that reaches the highest values in the sector in terms of energy density and capacity. These batteries can reach 500 WH/kg energy density.
Samsung is very close to the happy ending in the solid state battery
Samsung’s solid state battery, which attracts attention with its oxide -based structure, can be used in small cells thanks to its stable structure. This makes technology suitable for integrating products that need flexible shapes such as wearable devices. For example, these batteries can be used in new generation fitness tracking devices such as Galaxy Ring.
Samsung will now start investing in mass production facilities and will be ready to supply prototypes to place other parts of the company in 2026 products. Another important advantage of Samsung in solid state battery technology is that it uses innovative methods that will reduce costs and loss of time in the production process. Thanks to a technique called “Roll Presing”, the company leaves the process of “Warm Istactic Press” (WIP), one of the traditional and slow methods used in battery production. This technique performs the high temperature and pressure operations required to make the electrode and electrolyte materials solid more faster and more effectively.
If Samsung succeeds in prototype production this year and implemented the mass production process as it plans, it will exceed the production rate and costs, one of the biggest obstacles encountered in the adoption of solid state battery technology. Samsung’s rapid progress in this area attracts the attention of competing companies such as Toyota and Catl. Both companies plan to use their own solid state batteries in electric vehicles as of 2027.
Speaking of electric vehicles, Samsung will scaze the solid state batteries for electric vehicles. The company claimed that these batteries could charge only in 9 minutes and have 20 years of life while targeting 2027. The company also stated that vehicles using solid Hal batteries can reach 1,000 km range.
