Global semiconductor shortage continues to pose challenges for OEM products, but signs of recovery are beginning to appear in the US. With sufficient supply secured to drive shipments to more OEMs, including Samsung, in the third quarter, the US smartphone market grew 1 percent year-on-year and 9 percent from the previous quarter.
If we talk about Samsung specifically, Samsung had a shipping market share of 30 percent a year ago, but at the end of the third quarter of 2021, the company managed to increase this figure to 35 percent. This solidified Samsung’s position as the 2nd largest phone brand in the US after Apple. It is clear that the successful launch of Samsung’s new foldable smartphones, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, has an impact on this.
According to the report prepared by Counterpoint Research, LG’s exit from the smartphone market helped Motorola the most. Motorola is currently the third largest seller in terms of shipping market share, followed by TCL and OnePlus.
