Technology company Samsung has finally introduced its Digital Key feature, which is similar to Apple’s CarPlay, to users. The South Korea-based company introduced many of its products at the first Galaxy Unpacked event of the year on August 11th. For example, it announced the flagship Galaxy S21 series.
Also at the launch, the company also unveiled a digital car key feature. With this key, users will be able to open and lock their car door or perform various operations. But only a few car brands and Samsung’s smartphone are specifically integrated in the first place.
Samsung, Digital Key feature in one tool for now!
Samsung has previously announced that the first brands to specifically integrate are Audi, BMW, Ford and Genesis. Currently, the Digital Key feature only works with South Korea-based Genesis. Also currently the feature is active with Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
Samsung has announced that the Digital Key feature works on the recently launched luxury Genesis GV60 electric car. While the feature is currently rolling out to Samsung’s headquarters in South Korea, it’s expected to reach more regions in the coming weeks.
So, what are the functions of the Digital Key feature? In order to use the feature, you need to have a Samsung smartphone that supports this feature and a Genesis GV60 at the moment. With this feature, you can lock, unlock and start the engine of your car. You also have the possibility to securely share the key with your friends.
It also gives you the option to honk using your phone in case you lose your car. However, Samsung has also considered what happens if you lose your phone. Your information and key are protected by the Secure Element (eSE) feature. So, you won’t have to worry.
