Developing technology has undoubtedly affected human life a lot, and conveniences or innovations that we could not see just 100 years ago have now become the standard of our lives. However, is technology as innocent as we think?
Technology and environment relationship
Unfortunately, technological developments do not always add beauty to our lives. The toxic fumes mixed into the air from the factory chimneys, the chemical wastes discharged into the rivers, and the solid wastes mixed with the soil are unfortunately the other side of the coin.
Samsung, which constantly emphasizes its sensitivity to the environment, is not what it seems on the application side, however. The 763,000 gallons of chemical waste discharged from the chip facilities in Austin for months have completely wiped out wildlife in the Harris Branch Creek river.
It is stated that the pH value of the river has decreased to 2-3 range during the discharge, which has been continuing for about 100 days. Samsung normally stores the wastewater in tanks, but it has been stated that some of it is discharged into one of the tributaries of the river.
Samsung, which cut off the discharge, announced that it was trying to remove the pollution by working with a special expert. For a healthy life in the river, the acid value must be in the pH range of 6.7-8.5, and this will take a long time. City administration officials are also following the issue closely. It is a question of whether an investigation will be opened against Samsung in this regard.
