Samsung’s 3nm problem continues
According to Korean media, one of the biggest problems Samsung has faced in the 3nm process is not technical setbacks, but a lack of talent in the semiconductor field. Samsung Foundry doesn’t seem to have enough R&D manpower to sustain 3nm-based chipset production, and the company is in a transformation to mitigate the issues.
South Korean technology has started to shift its manpower from old production processes to 3nm processes in order to overcome the problems. According to industry watchers, Samsung doesn’t have enough human resources for the entire process and the firm is redeploying teams working on 130nm and 65nm.
However, this restructuring also incurs additional costs. For example, Samsung is said to no longer accept orders for chips based on 130nm and 65nm processes. Samsung, on the other hand, denied these claims and announced that it continues to produce 130nm and 65nm. The good news for Samsung when it comes to competition in the semiconductor space is that it is not alone in its problems. Semiconductor companies in the US, Taiwan and China are also struggling to recruit more people.
