Samsung recently increased its Android operating system update policy from two major updates to three. According to a new leak, the South Korean giant plans to expand Android updates to four major OS updates.
According to the leaks, the Galaxy S22 series will launch with Android 12 followed by Android 13, Android 14, Android 15 and even Android 16. With Android 16, these smartphones will allegedly see security patches for another year before they retire. According to leaked screenshots of the license agreement, the Korean technology giant also plans to provide security patches for five years instead of four.
Expected to be announced at the Unpacked 2022 event
The new policy will apply to flagship devices, including the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22, Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 foldable smartphones.
Most likely, Samsung will officially announce its new software support policy for its devices at its Unpacked 2022 event on February 9.
