SSDs, which can run at least 3 times faster than HDDs generally available in old computers, increase speed limits from year to year. Although SSDs with a speed of 3,500mb/s come to mind when it comes to high-performance SSDs, the requirements of the business world push this limit up. The speed results of Samsung’s business-oriented SSD using the PCIe 5.0 interface have arrived.

Samsung breaks speed record with SSD using PCIe 5.0

The recently announced SSD with model number PM1743 was notable for using the PCIe 5.0 standard. Currently, the most performing SSDs on the market are stuck at the speed limit of PCIe 4.0. The fact that this standard restricts read and write speeds to 7,800mb/s was a hindrance for more powerful SSDs. The newly announced PCIe 5.0 is almost double that; It can offer speeds of up to 14,000mb/s.

Samsung is among the pioneers using this new standard. In the benchmark test performed with the Samsung PM1743, the i9 12900K processor, ASUS Z960 motherboard and EVGA RTX 3080 were used with the device. Testing this performance beast on a computer allowed the Samsung PM1743 to reach a speed of 13,829mb/s, breaking the record.

Due to the limit of PCIe 4.0, no SSD has ever reached this speed before. But what Samsung does is just to be a pioneer. In the coming months, we will see such fast SSD models from other manufacturers, thanks to the increased limit of the new PCI standard. Even more successful SSDs in terms of cache and response time can be produced and marketed.

While even SSDs with speeds of 7,000mb/s are extremely high for home users right now, time can be paramount in the business world. High-speed SSDs, which are needed in software and film companies, will save companies a lot of time, even though they have quite salty prices.
