Samsung uses Exynos chipsets in both its premium smartphones and affordable budget-friendly Galaxy models. In addition, Samsung, which shares these chips with different technology companies, has recently started to use its preferences differently. The Korean giant, which started to use mostly MediaTek and Qualcomm chipsets in its smartphones, has even shifted to Unisoc processors in some tablet models.

While this has caused rumors that Samsung will no longer use Exynos processors, it has also started to lose its weight in the processor market.

According to the latest reports, Samsung’s heavy use of Qualcomm’s flagship processors in high-end phones caused Exynos to lose its market share.

The latest data from Counterpoint Research shows that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 and 800 series high-end chipsets have reached 68 percent market share in the first quarter of 2022. Qualcomm’s latest processor. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, on the other hand, strengthens Qualcomm’s position in the market, as it is used in 75 percent of Samsung Galaxy S22 models.

Whereas, Samsung developed the Exynos 2200 in response to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and used this model in the Galaxy S22 series. However, the efficiency problems between the 2 processors that Samsung has faced for years may have forced the South Korean company to prefer Qualcomm this time. Moreover, this year, for the first time in our country, a Galaxy S series model went on sale with a Snapdragon processor instead of an Exynos processor.

While the report indicates that the use of Samsung Exynos chipsets has dropped from 34 percent to 23 percent at the premium level, the situation is not much different in the budget-friendly smartphone segment. Exnyos processors, which were used at a rate of 10 percent last year, are used at a rate of 7 percent in the same segment this year.

There is a future for Exynos though. Samsung continues to include Exynos processors in its phones. The company has high hopes for the Exynos 1280 processor, which the company recently included in the Galaxy A33 and Galaxy A53 models.
