It was announced that the UFS 4.0 storage technology, introduced by Samsung in May, will go into mass production this month. The new and faster flash memory standard is expected to be used in new flagship phones as well as Samsung’s high-end phones.
Samsung’s UFS 4.0 storage provides twice the bandwidth
The industry’s first UFS 4.0 mobile memory is critical for smartphones. Because nowadays, both mobile games and smart phones need a faster and more efficient storage solution. Samsung’s UFS 4.0 storage solution will meet this need and will later be used in virtual reality and augmented reality fields.
Although Samsung has not announced which products will use UFS 4.0 storage, we expect it to be included in the Galaxy S23, which will be introduced next year. Although Samsung will not use the Exynos 2300 chip in the new flagship Galaxy S23, it is possible that it will at least include new generation memories in this device.
UFS 4.0 features
UFS 4.0 memories produced by Samsung use Gen 7 V-Nand memories and special controllers. In this way, 4200 MB / s read and 2800 MB / s write speeds can be reached. Also, UFS 4.0 memories support 23.2 Gbps per lane speeds. According to the UFS 3.1 standard, this value is about two times higher. Likewise, on the read speed side, a power efficiency improvement of 46% is offered. Finally, the UFS 4.0 solution can be configured to support up to 1TB of storage.
