According to Ross Young, one of the names sharing information about the upcoming Apple products, Apple will introduce the new 13-inch MacBook Air with OLED screen, as well as the 11.1-inch iPad Pro and 13-inch iPad Pro models in 2024. Apple supply chain analyst Kuo also expects the first OLED-screen MacBook to launch in 2024.
MacBook Air and iPad Pro models are said to use dual stack OLED displays with two layers of red, green and blue emissions for higher brightness. All devices will support ProMotion, which offers a 120Hz refresh rate.
While all iPads and MacBooks currently available for purchase have an LCD backlit display, the OLED display has self-radiating pixels and does not require backlighting. This results in higher contrast ratio, greater color accuracy and lower power consumption. Apple already uses an OLED display on its latest Apple Watch and iPhone models (except iPhone SE). Meanwhile, the company is expected to switch to a microLED display with the new Apple Watch Ultra.
