Samsung fell short in terms of both performance and efficiency with the Exynos 2200, which features the first AMD RDNA 2 GPU named Xclipse 920. The future of these inadequate Exynos chips was uncertain, and Samsung had to deal with Qualcomm. However, it seems that Samsung and AMD have no intentions of ending the partnership. In the statement, it was announced that the license agreement has been extended with a multi-year partnership.

Samsung and AMD partnership will continue

Although Samsung and AMD did not provide critical information about the new partnership, Seogjun Lee, Samsung’s Vice President of Application Processor Development, underlines that both companies plan to innovate in their mobile graphics divisions. It seems that even if not in the Galaxy S24, the Exynos processors will again give life to Samsung’s flagships in the next models.

The partnership of Samsung and AMD also achieved a first in the industry with the Exynos 2200. This mobile chip offered ray tracing capability for the first time in the industry. That’s why the Exynos 2200 is even faster than Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in ray tracing performance. However, the overall performance was inadequate compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. On the other hand, it is now said that a fine-tuned version of the Exynos 2300 will appear on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Although not named Exynos, the chip is said to be called Tensor G3.
