Samsung has a long way to go
In GAA technology, which offers a more efficient production by stacking multiple nano-connections instead of side by side, Samsung was the company that completed the first 3nm transition. However, he could not achieve the desired efficiency.
According to sources close to the company, efficiency in the 3nm process was only around 20 percent. Electrostatic discharge or ESD problem reduces efficiency. That’s why Samsung has partnered with a startup called Silicon Frontline Technology. This initiative increases plate production efficiency, especially with ESD protection technologies.
Samsung used its first 3nm production on some miner chips but is not taking any orders at this time. It was discussed that Qualcomm would work with Samsung again for 3nm, but if the problems are not resolved, other customers, including Qualcomm, may switch to TSMC.
