Why did the prices increase so much?
While writing this content, I frequently visited the iPhone news that we shared with you during the launch periods in the past, and I always saw the same discussions in the comments section. Why are the prices so high? When you say exchange rate difference and taxes, what happened when the price of a phone became 17.999 TL? For example, when the iPhone 3G went on sale in Turkey, 1 US dollar was around 1.30 TL. When the iPhone 13 appeared, it was around 1 US dollar 8.40 TL. In addition to the exchange rate difference, the taxes levied on phones in our country are not to be underestimated.
In an article we shared with you before, we explained this situation through an example. When buying a mobile phone in Turkey, we pay 1% share of the Ministry of Culture, 10% TRT banderole fee, 50% SCT and finally 18% VAT. When these heavy taxes are combined with the exchange rate difference, this sad scene emerges.
Of course, this is not just for iPhones. At least, we find it difficult to access many things, from a mid-range smartphone to an efficient computer, that we can no longer explain that they are no longer a luxury, because the prices are quite high.
