In the past weeks, we shared a list of the most used internet browsers by users. Apple, which is in the 3rd place in this list, passed the 1 billion download threshold and took the 2nd place in the list.
New data shows that Apple’s Safari browser now has more than one billion users, moving closer to Chrome as one of only two browsers with over one billion active users. Safari is now estimated to have more than one billion users, accounting for about 19 percent of all internet users. Google Chrome continues to be the clear leader with an estimated 3.4 billion users.
Safari and Chrome made a big difference to their closest rivals
In the data announced, it is seen that Apple’s browser, Safari, made a big attack between mobile and desktop browsers. However, looking at the desktop browser reports, Safari has not yet been able to take the second place from Microsoft Edge. In the desktop version, Chrome is still the most preferred browser with a user rate of 66.1%; its closest competitor Microsoft Edge has 10.11% and Safari has 9.16% user percentage.
The rest of the percentiles for desktop versions are 7.66% for Mozilla Firefox and 2.81% for Opera. Another interesting data of the announced report is that Internet Explorer still has a 1.68% usage rate.
On the other hand, when we look at the mobile side, it was announced that Safari reached one billion downloads, mostly thanks to downloads from iOS and especially iPhone phones. Apple announced last January that it has a user base of 1.8 billion devices across iOS and macOS.
