There were many developments in Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4000 announcement. One of them is the overclocking performance of the RTX 4090, the top model of Ada Lovelace architecture. Powered by TSMC’s 4N manufacturing technology and AD102 chip, the new flagship can reach speeds of 3.0 GHz and above.

RTX 4090 can reach new records

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, while presenting the new generation Ada Lovelace graphics cards, emphasized that the GeForce RTX 4090 is overclocked up to 3.0GHz. As it is known, the new flagship can reach speeds up to 2.6 GHz by default. With that in mind, we can expect the actual operating frequency to be around 3 GHz and well beyond on dedicated overclocking models.

Over the past few months, we’ve heard a lot of rumors that high-end Nvidia graphics cards will need 600W or higher. However, Nvidia reversed the rumors and rated the RTX 4090 with the same 450W TDP as the RTX 3090 Ti. However, we do not know the TDP requirement of the new development or what kind of cooling is achieved.

These figures are slightly below the Radeon RX 6900 XT’s 3.2GHz GPU overclock world record achieved via liquid nitrogen cooling last year. We’ve also seen older video cards overclocked to 3.0GHz using similar methods. But the fact that the 4090 has reached this point with its 76 billion transistors represents an extraordinary milestone.

The GeForce RTX 4090 will hit the shelves on October 12 with prices starting at $1,599. A sub-model RTX 4080, which will be released in November, will have a price tag of 899 and 1,199 dollars with 12GB and 16GB options.
