AMD’s new member Radeon RX 7900 GRE desktop graphics card was introduced. Although it was first announced in China, the card seems to be available globally as well. The GRE in RX 7900 GRE stands for Golden Rabbit Edition. It is a scaled down version of the RX 7900 XT. So there are some minor reductions in GPU and significant reductions in memory.
The apple of the eye of ChinaJoy2023: RX 7900 GRE introduced
Compared to the 84 compute units of the Radeon RX 7900 XT, the 7900 GRE has 80. Gaming frequency (expected GPU clock speed while gaming) drops from 2000 MHz to 1880 MHz. The 20GB 20Gbps 320-bit memory in the 7900 XT drops to 16GB 18Gbps 256-bit, causing the memory bandwidth to drop from 800GB/s to 576GB/s. In addition, the 315W TDP value in the 7900 XT is 260W on this card.
AMD positions the 7900 GRE as a 1440p card rather than 4K. The company’s marketing material also cites it as a successor to the 6800 XT, and the two are directly compared. That means it should have similar performance to the RTX 4070. It has been announced that the new card, which comes with a three-fan cooling system, will have a price tag of $ 649 in the USA.
If we look at this price, AMD has targeted the RTX 4070 with its new pricing policy. Although Nvidia rates the RTX 4070 at $599, many versions of the card sell for around $650. The card, which will be offered with PowerColor, Sapphire and XFX variants along with a reference AMD model, went on sale in China on July 28. However, there is no information on when it will be available for sale globally and whether it will have the same name.
