Rockstar Games has made an official statement regarding a major network attack it suffered yesterday that resulted in a hacker gaining access to the studio’s confidential information and the first footage of the next Grand Theft Auto game.
Regarding the leak, Rockstar said, “We are extremely disappointed to be sharing all the details of our next game with you in this way,” he said. “We will continue to work hard to provide you, our players, an experience that truly exceeds your expectations.”
Fortunately, the attack didn’t seem to hinder the studio’s development processes too much, as the firm further said, “At this time, we do not expect any interruptions to our live services or a long-term impact on the development of our ongoing projects.”
The stolen data began leaking to the internet on Sunday, and hackers have released a “test build” of GT6, along with access to the GTA 5 and 6 source code. Plenty of screenshots and videos from the game’s first compilation have been circulating on social media ever since. Take-Two Interactive has managed to delete most of these leaks.
Rockstar concluded its message regarding the situation by thanking fans for their support and saying that it will announce the next Grand Theft Auto with an appropriate introduction “when it’s ready.”
