The Cape Canaveral Space Force (USA Space Force) Station may soon be controlled by the watchful electronic eyes of a robotic version of man’s best friend. The U.S. Space Force made a demonstration in Cape Canaveral using robot dogs to patrol certain areas of the space station.

The presentation took place on July 27, and the US Space Force later released several images showing its personnel operating two robot dogs in the field. Officially called Ghost Robotics quadrupedal Unmanned Ground Vehicles (Q-UGVs), the robots will patrol ‘manual and repetitive tasks’ and ‘for damage assessments and to save significant man hours’, according to the Space Force.

Robot dogs used by the US Space Force were produced by Philadelphia-based company Ghost Robotics. They have the ability to stand up immediately in case of any slip, fall or malfunction. Robot dogs have visual and auditory sensors and can be commanded by a human. They can also operate autonomously on their own.
