Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen denied that he wanted Bitcoin banned, in response to a tweet by Ohio Republican US Representative Warren Davidson.
Larsen believes that switching to fully renewable energy is not a viable long-term solution. Because the proof of work algorithm only encourages finding the cheapest energy.
Larsen previously worked with Greenpeace USA to launch a $5 million ad campaign targeting Bitcoin’s energy-consuming consensus mechanism. The Bitcoin community, which sees this attempt as a direct attack on the leading cryptocurrency, has been very harshly criticized.
Larsen stated that he also owns Bitcoin and wants to be successful in the future, so he is pushing for a very unlikely code change.
Larsen in September called on regulators to punish Bitcoiners. Larsen also described Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin as a “hero” for working on proof-of-work.
The Ripple co-founder believes that once Ethereum switches to the proof-of-stake algorithm, it will be difficult for Bitcoin to compete with Eth. Larsen believes that after the expected update of ETH, it will reduce energy consumption by 99.95%.
