Ripple announced the release of XRP Ledger 1.9.0. Version 1.9.0 introduces a new modification of the protocol to natively support NFTs on XRP Ledger (according to the XLS-20 draft standard). According to

release notes, this change is open to vote based on XRP Ledger’s change process, which enables protocol changes after two weeks of over 80% support from trusted validators. If successfully passed, this could allow for enhanced NFT functionality, as developers can now create applications that allow users to print, transfer, and ultimately (if desired) burn NFTs on the XRP Ledger.

Ripple’s CTO David Schwartz had this to say about the latest release:

“Ripple validators will keep the XLS-20 mainstream until they are sure of the impact of NFTs on XRPL. he will (for now) veto bringing it to the network. In the meantime, we are running performance tests and plan to share our results with the wider community.”

CTO, finally said:

“Ripple has been a responsible participant in the XRPL community for a long time and while we at XRP Ledger we are excited to contribute to NFT technology, We also depend on its stability and scalability. Therefore, today’s release includes a number of performance improvements and the final outcome of the XLS-20 will depend on the collective XRPL community.”
