Riot Games Files Lawsuit Against Valorant ‘Clone’ Mobile Game

Riot Games has filed a copyright lawsuit against NetEase, the developer of the Valorant 'clone' mobile game. It is claimed that all the content in the game is taken from Valorant.

Announcing that the mobile version of Valorant will be released last year, Riot Games has today sued a developer company that it claims has copied the game. The lawsuit filed by Riot Games was against NetEase, the developer of the game Hyper Front.

Reaching more than one million downloads to date, Hyper Front was not only a replica of Valorant, but a clone, according to Riot Games’ claim. The case was filed simultaneously with courts in the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil and Singapore.

According to the case file submitted by Riot Games, the characters, maps, weapons, weapon skins and accessories in Hyper Front were all similar to the content in Valorant. Moreover, Riot stated that it had previously sent a warning to NetEase about this issue. After this warning, minor changes were made to the game and the final scene was as follows:

While the heroes in the game aren’t taken the same with all their abilities and looks, this won’t save the game from copyright infringement, according to Riot. Riot Games won $2.9 million by filing a lawsuit against a game similar to League of Legends in 2018.
