Paper waste, which has been among the environmental problems that have been discussed for years, will soon be reduced with a new solution with the advancement of the scientific world. Although the path to this solution is not yet certain, scientists from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore recently achieved a feat that showed how reusable paper could be.

Scientists not only developed a new type of paper, but also made it possible to easily remove all written content from the paper. Moreover, the paper was produced from sunflower pollen, not from trees like today’s paper. To create the paper, scientists developed a gel-like substance that can be formed into millimeter-thick sheets using pollen grains.

What is printed on paper retains its integrity even under water:

Pollen-based reusable paper also did not differ much from standard paper. It is possible to write on paper with the printer. In fact, texts and pictures printed on paper do not suffer any damage under water, unlike standard papers.

Deleting content written/printed on paper is also a very simple process. All that is required to wipe the contents is to soak the paper in an alkaline solution for a few minutes. After a certain time, all the toner on the paper is erased from the paper. However, the life of the developed paper is not unlimited. The deletion can be done up to eight repetitions. Scientists continue to work to take the paper they have developed further and to produce it in high quantities by increasing its lifespan.
