This year, most university students are experiencing major problems with dormitories. Situations such as the lack of space in the KYK dormitories and the inability of the students to afford the high rent prices brought many students to the point of giving up their university education.
One of the problems related to dormitories was in the KYK dormitory of Suleiman the Magnificent, located in Istanbul Başakşehir. Complaining about the thefts, bad food and low internet speed that is not enough for hundreds of students, the students started to protest the dormitory. Of course, it wasn’t just that. The students were very reactive because of the 3 knife attacks in a week on the road between the dormitory and the subway and the administration’s failure to take the necessary precautions.
Jahrein’s post on Twitter:
Jahrein shared the images reflected on the cameras on Twitter. The post in question included the following statements: “There is a tremendous protest in Istanbul Kanuni Sultan Süleyman KYK dormitory. The students told me that they are suffering from 3 issues: 1- Slow, 16 GB quota internet 2- Meals 3- Being extorted/injured around the dormitory.”

Support for Jahrein’s post came from social media:
Jahrein continued to include videos from the dormitory in his posts behind this tweet. Upon the request of the students for the bus, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Spokesperson Murat Ongun and Istanbul Municipality Member Dr. Ekrem İmamoğlu came to the aid of Jahrein, who requested a bus from Taylan Yıldız.
Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, stated that he took up the situation in response to the call made by Jahrein. The following statements were included in the post, which is a source of hope for students; “As IMM, we are ready to do whatever we can to find solutions to the problems experienced by students. We will take a close interest.”
