After the fire broke out for an unknown reason in the Kayadere village of Çanakkale in the evening hours, many teams were sent to the region. According to the latest information, 6 villages near the fire were evacuated.

Emergency Ship departed from Istanbul

Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure; He said that the Nene Hatun Emergency Response Ship, with a fire extinguishing system that can flood 9,600 cubic meters of water per hour and spray 150 meters horizontally and 70 meters vertically, set off from Istanbul to respond to the fire approaching the Kepez region.

6 villages were evacuated, 18 Mart University was evacuated

After the forest fire in Çanakkale grew, the Çanakkale-Çan road was closed to transportation. On the other hand, the Dardanelles Strait was also closed to traffic.

According to the latest information, measures were taken for 9 villages near the fire and 6 villages were evacuated. In addition, Çanakkale 18 Mart University, where the fire was approaching, was evacuated.

Regarding the fire, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry said, “Forest fires spread due to the strong wind. The fire spread to an area of ​​15.1 kilometers in 6 hours. However, the wind that caused the fire advance was so strong that there were moments when the work of our teams was not enough. There is a humidity of 19 percent and a wind speed of 70 kilometers per hour. According to the worst scenario, AFAD, the Governor’s Office and other public institutions will support the fires.”

Although it is thought that the fire will pass tangentially to the city center and Kepez, the city hospital and university campus located here are also on alert. However, there is no evacuation at this time.

So far, 8 aircraft, 26 helicopters, approximately 180 water sprinklers and construction equipment, and approximately 1100 personnel have been dispatched to the fire in Çanakkale.

No casualties have been reported so far.
