The “Regulation Amending the Regulation on Energy Performance in Buildings” prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change was published in the Official Gazette.
With the new regulation, it was stated that there will be a transition to the concept of “Near Zero Energy Buildings”, which provides more energy efficiency compared to normal buildings and additionally meets some of the energy used from renewable energy sources. It has been reported that the transition to the energy-efficient building concept will be made compulsory gradually.
Buildings not designed according to the regulation will not be licensed
As stated in the new regulation, as of January 1, 2023, all buildings with a total construction area of more than 5 thousand square meters in a parcel will no longer be available. energy performance will be at least ‘B’ class. In addition, at least 5 percent of the energy used by these buildings will have to be obtained from renewable energy sources such as solar energy panels, wind energy and heat pumps.
Accordingly, the thickness of the insulation materials used in thermal insulation will be increased by at least two centimeters by increasing the minimum energy performance, which is still in ‘C’ class, to ‘B’ class. After this change, the minimum thermal insulation material thicknesses will be rearranged to be increased from 5 centimeters to 7-8 centimeters in Istanbul, and from 6 centimeters to 8-9 centimeters in Ankara. On the other hand, the thermal insulation values of the windows used in the buildings will also be improved.
As of January 1, 2023, licenses will not be issued for the projects of buildings that are not designed according to the regulation.
