Minister of Health Dr. Fahrettin Koca made new statements regarding COVID-19 and the new variant Omicron. In his statement on Twitter, Koca stated that the Coronavirus Scientific Committee came together to talk about the Omicron variant, the course of the epidemic and the vaccine program, and announced the decisions taken at the meeting.
Noting that the possible effects of the Omicron variant in the country were discussed at the meeting and that the virus spreads much faster with the new variant, Koca said; Stating that no negative situation has been detected in the power of making sick, except for the easier transmission of the new variant, he stated that there is no unsettling situation for Omicron for now. On the other hand, Koca stated that the most logical measure that can be taken against the predominance of the Omicron variant is to strengthen it with supplemental vaccines, and said that people with inactivated or mRNA vaccines can be given a reminder dose with the vaccine they wish, provided that three months have passed.
All citizens who have passed 3 months after the determined vaccination schedule can receive a booster dose.
Noting that the new data obtained on the effect of vaccines against variants were examined and that we owe the vaccination program not to experience an explosion in the number of daily cases in the country, Koca underlined that the fact that we are one of the countries that started to apply the reminder dose at the earliest played a significant role in this. However, Koca pointed out that the Omicron variant may become dominant in our country as well as in European countries; In order to prevent this situation, he stated that it was decided at the meeting that all citizens can have a reminder dose if 3 months pass over the determined vaccination schedule.
Stating that even though the mutated virus continues to threaten life, the COVID-19 measures are still valid, Koca added that it is possible to maintain individual and social life if the measures taken against the virus are carefully implemented.
