NASA was planning to send 7 astronauts into space with the second spacecraft it developed, Challenger. But on January 28, 1986, when the launch took place, the damaged seals of the space shuttle caused a major disaster. The space shuttle exploded in the 73rd second of its flight, 7 astronauts died.

Although many of the pieces from the shuttle Challenger have been recovered, a new piece has been discovered today that has been lying in the ocean for 35 years. Discovered in a documentary to be broadcast on the History Channel, the piece was examined by NASA and confirmed to belong to Challenger.

Those moments when the piece of Challenger was found:

The fragment of NASA’s Challenger shuttle appeared in a promotional trailer shared by the History Channel. In the trailer, the sand on the piece was being cleaned. The piece was covered with 20-centimeter tiles and had a total length of 6 meters. At the end of the trailer, a diver said, “I think we should talk to NASA.” he was saying.

NASA did not share which part of the shuttle the piece in question belongs to. However, it was shared that the tiles showed that they could belong to the middle part of the shuttle.

The piece was found northeast of the area known as the Bermuda Triangle. The documentary team was actually going after aircraft vehicles from the second world war.

This is how Challenger exploded 35 years ago:
