While the first traces of “vampire burials” in Europe date back to the 14th century, new discoveries continue to be made from the 17th century. In 2022, near the Polish village of Pién, the remains of a woman with a sickle on her throat and a lock on her feet in the 17th century were among the most recent and hot topics.

The inhabitants of the village of Pién at the time believed that padlocking the feet would prevent the dead from returning to Earth. Locks were caught on the feet of people believed to be vampires and locked in the ground.
