Unfortunately, there are not many games that we can give examples of the genre we call Immersive sim today, besides the game, there is no studio that develops games in this genre anymore because it is no longer a genre that the new generation player base is very interested in. However, one studio should not be overlooked in this regard: Arkane Austin. Namely the developer of games like Dishonored, Prey and Deathloop. All of these games are good examples of the immersive sim genre. In these games, when you want to do a task or reach a point, there are multiple different options and these are not specified as if it is a blind eye. It is entirely up to your creativity. Arkane Austin’s new Redfall, which is also in this style, also made its debut recently. I’m here with the review.

Redfall takes place in a universe where there are vampires and the main goal is to eliminate these vampires. Although the game looks like Deathloop has changed the theme in general, we can actually say it in the style of Left 4 Dead, but of course it is decorated with Arkane touches. You enter the game by choosing one of 3 different characters. Each character has their own unique abilities. Two of these are abilities that have a shorter cooldown and can be used on average twice in a battle. The other ability is more ulti-style and has a long cooldown, so you can use it once per battle on average. The abilities of the characters really affect the way you play. Therefore, it is useful to be careful when choosing the character.

After choosing the character, you start the game immediately. The game is basically an open world game, but it is separated by region. We can say that your goal is to fulfill the tasks given to you, kill the vampires and clean the area. There is also a story in the background, but the story is definitely not in focus like in Deathloop, Dishonored or Prey. You have a main area in the game and you both create a safe zone and facilitate your transportation on the map by cleaning the fast travel points, safe houses and derivatives you see on the way to the mission. There are human or vampire enemies in various parts of the map. Although it is pleasant to clear them at the beginning of the game, after a while, the desire to dodge the enemies and go on a mission outweighs. Apart from this, there are also enemies on the map that will force you from time to time and put you into a relatively enjoyable action. In connection with the universe, bosses that we can call big Boss from time to time also come.

At this point, the variety of weapons actually comes to the fore. There are weapons according to the style of each character, but you can travel with any weapon you want and the game offers you a constant loot. That’s why you’re in a state of constant weapon switching, in the style of Borderlands. Of course, your style of play is also important here. To summarize, Redfall is such a game, but the main purpose of this article is not to introduce the game. As it has been talked about for a few days, I want to talk about whether Redfall is a bad game or not.

Is Redfall a Bad Game?

Actually, we should start with Arkane. Arkane is a studio that offers different experiences that have gained our trust with the games it has produced so far. Even in Deathloop, while many players were waiting in a prejudiced way, the production that we encountered was a different and enjoyable production. That’s why we expected a different and enjoyable production in Redfall, even if there was no expectation. But Redfall failed to be different like Arkane had done before. It is a soulless game that we have seen in many places before, and does not offer anything extra. Is that enough for it to be a bad game, I don’t think so. Yes, there are hundreds of games nowadays and there is no reason to play the same thing over and over again, but still, this is not enough to call a game bad. What the game offers is very ordinary and soulless, in fact, we have seen too many similar ones. So my opinion for Redfall is that it’s an average game. It doesn’t offer anything different, but it still plays itself. It has good fun, especially with co-op support. My biggest criticism here is that the game is soulless. Because in many games on average, we could at least immerse ourselves in the atmosphere. Although the atmosphere of Redfall is beautiful, you cannot enter the game. That’s why it saddens me that a game that can unfortunately offer much more remains average.

On the technical side, I have been able to get a fluid experience since the early access version of the game. With 2K resolution RTX 3080, 5600X, I could easily get 60 FPS with all settings at the end. There were those who had problems with the release of the game, but with the patch from the first day, the problems were eliminated.

In conclusion, Redfall is not a game to be excited about, but if you are playing with your friends with Xbox Game Pass, it is a game that you can easily enter and experience in your spare time. There is no need to pay and buy extra money when you have Game Pass. But you can enter with Game Pass and have a good time while chatting with your friends, I don’t think it’s a bad game as it is said, it’s just an average game.
